Belarus President Says There Is No Coronavirus Because He Can’t See It Flying Around

Most countries in the world are taking the Coronavirus extremely seriously – since we have all learned lessons from Italy on what a little laxity and carelessness could cost us.

US, Australia, and most of Europe have taken extraordinary steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus and it has helped in controlling the spread so that it doesn’t spiral out of control.

But there is still a country in the world whose President refuses to learn. He recently said such things that would put even Donald Trump, Narendra Modi, and Jair Bolsonaro to shame.

He is the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

Mocked the rest of the world, called everyone “psychotic”

He mocked the rest of the world for taking action against Coronavirus and said that their fear is nothing more than an attack of “psychosis”.

Belarus has a population of 9.5 million, and has recorded 94 cases till now without any casualty. The only reason these cases have been so low is because most people do not travel to Belarus, and the natives don’t really go outside.

But community spread is real, and it takes only one person to infect thousands even before the first person begins to have any symptoms.

That is why Russia has closed its border with Belarus, and has installed strict checkpoints.

He says Belarus’s “fridge-like” climate will kill the virus

Belarus is the only country in the Europe that hasn’t enforced a lockdown, and public events here are still going on. He was playing Ice Hockey in a crowd-packed stadium, and he said the cold climate of their country was a “fridge-like” area which is the “real anti-viral cure.”
“This is a fridge. It is the best for health. This is better than sport and this fridge is the real anti-viral cure!”
The truth is that viruses thrive in cold climates since people’s immunity becomes weak at low temperatures. For a virus to be ineffectual, the temperature has to be lowered beyond the point where even humans cann’t survive. So Belarus is surely not going to kill the Coronavirus, and Belarus is surely not colder than Norway and Finland where governments have taken proper actions and initiated lockdown.

He says there are no viruses because he can’t see them flying around

A reporter asked him if he’d stop playing Ice Hockey due to Coronavirus outbreak, he replied:
“To stop me? But why? It is possible but why? I don’t understand. There are no viruses here. Did you see any of them flying around? I don’t see them too.”

In Belarus, expect things to get much worse than Italy

President Lukashenko and his supporters are not practicing social distancing at all, and they have been living as if nothing at all dangerous is happening in the outside world. They have been hugging, touching each other, and making plenty of physical contact which can transmit the Coronavirus with 100% efficiency.
We all know how Italy took this lightly, and now we have nearly 102,000 cases and 11,600 deaths in Italy. If history presents any evidence, we should be expecting a severe outbreak in Belarus any time now – all because of them taking this too lightly.

He just genuinely doesn’t care if people die

Even their President doesn’t seem to care as he encourages misinformation in the country, attends sporting events and tells people that Coronavirus is one big hoax. It really seems that he’d much rather prefer his countrypeople to die than to initiate a lockdown and safety procedure.
He even said on national television:
“It’s better to die standing than to live on your knees.”
