While nudity on film was earlier presented to the audience in either pornographic form, or as a sensational piece – now the meaning and purpose of nude scenes has changed.
Every since Kate Winslet bared for the camera and won an Academy Award, nudity has become an important part of how the filmmakers want to show the story, characters and intimacy.
Nowadays, even HBO is full of such scenes – sometimes using them as an important part of story, sometimes purely as eye candies. Even though the reputation of actors doing nude scenes no longer plummets, there are many actors who refuse to shed their clothes.
#1. Natalie Portman hates it when the nude scenes are posted on porn websites
Natalie Portman has said that she doesn’t mind giving a nude scene, but she hates it when the clips are uploaded on the porn websites.
It’s meant to be a dramatic scene and part of a story. [Uploading on the porn sites] That really makes me angry.
#2. Mandy Moore didn’t want to face people if they saw her naked
Mandy Moore was a rising superstar in 2007 and had dozens of movies assigned to her name, but soon the number began to decline. As the filmmakers wanted her to do a string of nude scenes in those movies, and she refused to do so.
The filmmakers didn’t budge and neither did she. She just didn’t want to go into the street and face people after doing something like that.
It would be completely uncomfortable to walk down the street and know that the person passing by had seen me without my clothes on.
#3. Rebel Wilson’s genre is not for nudity
Rebel Wilson mostly does comedy films and she will consider nudity only for a serious role, because nudity sure isn’t handled tastefully in the genre of comedy.
You want to know that the people [behind the camera] have a certain sensibility and decency. And a lot of times in comedy they’re not those people.
#4. Samuel L Jackson thinks that size matters
When Samuel L Jackson appeared on The Howard Stern Show, he confessed that he lacks the self-confidence to do a full-frontal nude scene.
Uh, I don’t know if it’s… yeah. I don’t know if it’s formidable enough to, you know.
#5. Ashley Benson wants to leave some things to imagination
Although Ashley Benson has often given racy photoshoots in bikinis and such, she has a line that she will never cross. When she was pushed to do it, she has often walked away. She believes:
Girls look so much better in lingerie or a tee shirt and leave the rest up to the imagination.
#6. Megan Fox doesn’t want her sons to see her naked
While Megan Fox has lived on the edge of nudity all these years, wearing as little as possible but never actually baring it all – she changed her mind in 2016 when she said she didn’t want her sons to see her naked.
There are just certain things boys should never see their mothers do. Women are require to do in the movie are things I can’t have my sons ever know or see.
#7. Christina Hendricks wants to keep it private
Despite the sexually attractive characters Christina Hendricks has played in the past, she is firm on her idea that while she might be appearing to ooze on-screen sex but she won’t actually be getting nude on film. She considers it a private thing.
I’m a very comfortable naked person. Not in front of other people, but at home and in front of my husband, I feel good not wearing clothes.
#8. Jessia Alba doesn’t want her grandparents seeing her boobs
Jessica Alba has also been known for her minimal clothing and attractive figure, she would never go full monty because she doesn’t want her grandparents seeing her boobs.
I don’t want my grandparents to see my boobs. That’s it. It would be weird at Christmas. I mean, really, if you look at the movies I have done, getting naked would never ‘elevate’ the picture.
#9. Mila Kunis will go as far as side boob
While Mila Kunis is regarded as one of the bombshells in the Hollywood, she has made it clear that she’d never go all guns blazing.
I showed side boob. I don’t need to show ass. You get one or the other. You don’t need both.
#10. Emma Watson is still Hermione and Hermione doesn’t do that
Emma Watson is so very proud of playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films and doesn’t want to leave her behind.
I’m not going to get my kit off or snort cocaine in a film, just to leave Hermione behind. I don’t want everyone to forget me as Hermione. I’m really proud of her.
Although, there is a chance she might do a nude scene but it has to be tastefully and purposefully handled as a crucial element of the character’s development arc.
#11. Emilia Clarke was pressured into it
Emilia Clarke said she agreed to do a “f*ck ton of nudity” in Game of Thrones because she was new to acting and she was pressurized to do it. Now she has said she might never do a nude scene again.
