Amid Covid cases surge, Doctors and healthcare workers are working round the clock without any breaks to treat patients from the deadly second wave of COVID-19 in India.
With more than 2.5 lakh cases being reported daily, social media is flooded with requests from people seeking hospital beds, ICUs, oxygen cylinders, and other things necessary to fight the deadly virus.
Doctors are now losing their patience with people not taking basic precautions. They are regularly sharing updates about available facilities on their personal social media handles. They are also sharing short videos on the dos and don’ts to fight the deadly virus.
Everyone is well aware of the current monstrous second wave of COVID and shortage of equipment & ICU facilities. Many doctors have now started to experience burnout and mental breakdowns due to the sheer work pressure and the daily trauma of handling death and sick patients.
One such overworked and traumatized doctor from Mumbai made a desperate appeal to the people of the country through a video recently.
Dr. Trupti Gilada, an infectious diseases specialist, broke down in tears as she requested everyone to mask up in order to save more people.
Burdened by the overflow of COVID-19 patients, the doctor said the healthcare sector is absolutely helpless as they have never seen such a situation before.
In the video, the Dr. says “I have never seen anything like this… we are so helpless. Like many doctors I am troubled… I don’t know what to do… I am heartbroken. Maybe if I tell you what worries me… if I can help you understand, I might be more at peace”.
Struggling to hold back her tears while speaking, she adds that critically ill patients are being treated at home because there are no beds in hospitals.
“We have to manage so many patients… critically ill patients are being treated at home because there are no beds… we are not enjoying this…,” she added.
She went on to say that people should not think of themselves as superheroes with immunity amid a pandemic.
“First… please stay safe. If you have not yet gotten Covid… or you were infected but have recovered… don’t think you are a superhero or that you have some immunity… you are wrong. We are seeing so many young people get infected… and we can’t help them,” she says.
Towards the end, she makes a desperate appeal to everyone to wear masks all the time and says that people should not panic after getting infected.
“Second… Covid is everywhere! If you leave home, for whatever reason, you HAVE TO WEAR YOUR MASK. It doesn’t matter why you are going out… but you have to wear face masks, and make sure your nose is fully covered,” she says.
