Honey Beats Antibiotics For Cold & Cough

Honey is loved by most of us, its importance in a lot of great food and drinks recipes is proof of it. It is also used for medicinal purposes. But what if we tell you honey is still quite underrated?

One of the latest research studies at Oxford Universities found out that raw honey is equally effective as antibiotics, and that too without any side effects. Moreover, honey is relatively cheaper than antibiotics and other medicines.

The findings also state that honey is more effective in relieving the cold and flu symptoms than the medicines people usually take.

The study also measured its effectiveness against cough suppressants and antihistamines and found that honey isn’t just better at curing a common cold but has no harmful side effects either.

It has been found that honey halts cough severity by about 44% and that it significantly reduces the recovery period of upper respiratory tract infection. URTIs include common cold-like illnesses that affect the nose, sinuses, pharynx, and larynx.

With the consumption of honey, cold symptoms last for a comparatively shorter period(by up to 2 days). Considering the availability of different types of honey, the results might differ to some extent, but effectivity is believed to be more or less the same.

Even though the goodness of honey is now backed by research studies, you’re recommended to avoid it in case you are allergic to it. Also, babies under the age of 1 should avoid it.

Honey might be good at fixing your cold-related symptoms, but it would be better if you try to replace your sugar with honey in your routine. However, you shouldn’t consume more than 2 to 3 tbsp of honey per day.

So, try it yourself and share your experience with us in the comments!
