Dancing With The Stars premiered on Monday, with a sad shocking news – Christie Brinkley broke her arm during a practice and would never be going up on the stage for her much awaited performance.
But her daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook came to the rescue, and took her mom’s place on the show. With just a few days to prepare and learn all the steps, she performed and ended on a very impressive note. Judges loved it, the audience loved it even more.
“Broken into a million of little pieces”
She gave an emotional interview to People where she said she immediately knew that her arm was broken into “a million pieces.”
The second I landed, I felt the shards in my arm. There’s a little bone at the thumb that usually posts one way. Mine was in the opposite direction. Then there was bone, just it, it was just shattered into a thousand little pieces, just a million of little pieces.
She has multiple fractures and a dislocated wrist
Christie has suffered multiple fractures in both the bones of her forearm, and she has also dislocated her wrist. The recovery from this injury will be long for Christie, as she had to go under immediate surgery where doctors inserted a plate and screws to repair the injury.
She broke the bad news to her Instagram followers:
Christie might not perform again for Dancing with The Stars and that has really left her heartbroken, but having her daughter pull out a mesmerizing performance really lifted her spirits, as she wrote on Instagram:
Shattering my arm was quite literally a crushing disappointment, i never ever want to let anyone down…so I looked for a silver lining and I think I found one that is is solid gold! Sailor!
Sailor Brinkley-Cook impressed the judges
Sailor was paired with pro dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy with whom she showed an amazing chemistry and impressive showcase of her dancing skills. She did a foxtrot to “Uptown Girl” from 1983 in whose music video, her mother Christie had starred.
After the performance in her glitzy white gown, she rushed to her mother in the audience and hugged her. The mother-daughter duo were so emotional, with Christie adding in that she was so proud.
Later, Sailor spoke to Good Morning America:
I’m doing this mostly for my mom! I just want to make her happy and make her proud. She loved doing this, she loves dancing and she loves performing and getting hurt was her worst nightmare.
Sailor and Valentin will be facing up against 12 celeb-pro pairings in the show, the massive star list of which includes Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown, NFL star Ray Lewis, pop singer Ally Brooke, Trump’s former secretary Sean Spicer, comedian Kel Mitchell, The Supreme‘s Mary Wilson, country singer Lauren Alaina, The Office‘s Kate Flannery, former NBA player Lamar Odom, and James Van Der Beek.
