8 Ways to Practice Self-Care

What would be your answer to the question ‘Do you love yourself?” It’s quite an easy one, but when you begin to ponder, all the insecurities come biting at you. It is important to love who you are because if you don’t like yourself, no one else will. However, it is difficult to come to terms with who you actually are. Life is nothing but a long journey of self-actualization. The journey becomes a lot easier when you give yourself the love and care that you expect from other people.

Everybody survives the days when they feel insecure and are bombarded with all kinds of self-deprecating thoughts. Here are a few ways you can practice self-care.

1. Stop comparing yourself

You cannot practice self-love unless you stop comparing yourself to others. Every individual has a different journey. Some people may have it all early in their lives while for some it may take some time. Learn to accept yourself the way you are. Other people’s achievements or gifts do not define your flaws. Know that you are enough.

2. Remove toxic people from your life

In life, you will meet all kinds of people. While everyone will teach you something, not everybody will bring happiness to you. You need to learn how to recognize toxic people, the ones who rob you of your mental peace and happiness. Don’t hesitate to remove them from your life.

3. Learn to let go

Holding on to your past will do you no good, my friend. Not only will it ruin your present but you will also see the after-effects spilling into the future. Once you let that baggage go you will feel so free and light and your tortured soul will thank you for that.

4. Be thankful

We often forget to show gratitude for small or even big things we achieve in our lives. Take a moment to be thankful for everything you have accomplished in life or the lessons that you have learned. You will feel content at heart.

5. Set boundaries

How many times have you said yes when all you wanted to say no? Often at work or in our relationships, we over-work ourselves by giving more than required. Nobody is going to applaud you for your extra effort but they sure will come for more. Don’t exhaust yourself from doing things that deplete you physically or emotionally. Learn to have boundaries.

6. Practice self-care

Self-love begins with self-care. Once you start looking after yourself, you will feel great about yourself. Start with eating healthy and exercising. It could be as simple as moisturizing your body and you will truly enjoy the results.

7. Be mindful

One of the self-love rituals is to stay mindful. Beware of what makes you happy or sad. If you observe, you will find a pattern in habits or things that affect your emotions. You should let go of things that turn you into a negative person

8. Have a purpose in life

It’s okay if you don’t have it all figured out, but the least you can do is to live intentionally. As long as you intend to live a healthy and meaningful life, you are good to go. The rest of your life decisions will fall into place when you start living with a purpose.
