Mutant Coronavirus Found In Southeast England, Cases Rapidly Accelerating

A new variant of COVID-19 has been found in the UK, the British Health Ministry has announced.

The number of cases in Britain has been doubling in every seven days, and the government says that the cause of this unprecedented acceleration is a new version of Coronavirus.

England’s Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said that London and the nearby areas have been put into the highest level of lockdown.

Pubs, bars, restaurants, and other hospitality venues will have to close, except for takeaway food, as will theatres and other venues in the entertainment sector.

Members of different households can’t meet indoors, although people can still meet in groups of up to six in public places outside. Shops and schools can remain open.

“This action is absolutely essential, not just to keep people safe but because we have seen early action can prevent more damage and longer-term problems later.”

The new variant of the Coronavirus was discovered in southeast England, where the rise in COVID cases has been the fastest. Daily cases and hospital admissions have been rising and the health infrastructure in England is already falling apart.

On the other hand, England’s Chief Medical Officer has been stressing that the new variant is just equally dangerous, infectious, and evasive of testing.

Andrew Davidson, reader in virology at Bristol University, said coronaviruses are able to mutate, and they have mutated in Europe, North America, Russia, etc.

Although, it’s not known whether the vaccine will be effective on the new COVID-19 or not.
