Jamat ul Vida is a Muslim festival celebrated on the last Friday of the month of Ramadan. The word, itself translates to the ‘Friday of Farewell’ in English, farewell to the month of Ramzan. What makes this day so special in the Islam religion is that it becomes the day of salvation and seeking blessings. On this day, Muslims offer special prayer to the God and read the holy book of Quran.

How do we celebrate Jamat ul Vida?
Jamat ul Vida is celebrated in the ninth month of the islamic calendar i.e. Ramzan. According to Islam, it was in the month of Ramadan or Ramzan that the God revealed the holy book of Quran to the last prophet, Muhammad. During this month, fasting is observed which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
This is why people go to the Mosque early in the morning read Quran. They offer reverence to Allah and seek for his blessings. Men take a customary bath in the morning, wear new clothes and the skull cap. Huge crowd of devotees can be seen at the mosque. People also help the needy and poor. Muslims believe that anyone who feed the poor on Jamat ul Vida will be showered with blessings of God. Religious leaders recite the sermons and teachings of Quran to the devotees.
This year, Jamat ul Vida will be celebrated on 31st May 201. Mecca in Hyderabad, the largest mosque in India, is where you can see the largest congregation of people from Muslim community. It is observed just a few days before Eid ul Fitr. Jamatul Vida is not a gazetted holiday, however, Muslims may take an optional leave from work to celebrate its ritual and tradition.
