How Many Calories Reside In A Watermelon? Read To Find Out

For all you food freaks out there, thank you y’all! Without you we wouldn’t have half the healthy food in town. And speaking of healthy food, watermelon always makes it to the list. So with people substituting brownies with fruit bowls layered with watermelon, the question still stands; are we really eating healthy and cutting out the sugars?

Turns out, we are! If you’ve never wondered how many calories a watermelon has, this is your cue. Now before we jump into statistics, I’d like to clear something in the air right now.

Here’s the truth

The only reason that fruits and vegetables are more preferrable forms of sugar, is the fact that their sugars exist as natural fructose. And fructose is GOOD for your body. Unlike processed sugar, the sucrose present in fructose breaks down slowly to give you sustained energy and it does not shock your body cells with a sugar high or sugar crash.

Look at bananas for example. They have a complex combination of fibre, fructose and potassium (K), that strengthens your nervous system and causes the release of oxytocin (the happy hormone). So the entire takeaway from here is that fruit calories are GOOD and are as effective as regular food calories when it comes to sustaining your energy.

And have you ever heard of a fruitarian diet? Yep, there are a few folks out there who live solely on fruits! Well, you can’t blame them…fruits are life!

So how many calories are present in a watermelon?

According to Calorie King, I cup of watermelon has about 9.4 grams of sugar (fructose)

Given that, the total number of calories in a whole watermelon would come around to 1355. A typical 9-pound watermelon would have 1355 calories in it. So even if you gobble down a whole watermelon, you could burn off the calories easily with a long morning walk or jog.

Why fruit calories don’t really count?

Fruits in general or at least most fruits are superfoods. They have complex starches or vitamins mixed with the fructose (natural fruit sugar) that they carry. And when you eat a handful of fruits, you are literally eating stuff that will keep your mitochondira functioning on a high level.

For those who skipped biology in school, mitochondria are the power houses of the cells in your body. They are the metabolism houses that help burn food reserves and convert them into energy.

This is a primal reason why you shouldn’t be worrying about the calories you consume through fruits, as they are most surely used by your mitchondrial cells to give you long lasting energy.

Not to forget their high fibre content, like you see in watermelon. This dietary fibre helps pull out all the guck that’s stuck to your gut and in a way strongly anti-ages you.

So never ever shy away from eating fruits because of the calories they contain. Why? Well who doesn’t want sustained energy and anti-aging. So go ahead and devour that watermelon you’re thinking of, with zero guilt!
