Ever Heard of a Long-Eared Jerboa?

Unlike humans, animals of the same breed look more or less the same. However, some animals are born different from their breed. They catch our attention for a simple reason: uniqueness.

This blog is about one such unique animal, a long-eared jerboa. This cute little animal has a body like a mouse, ears like a rabbit, a snout like a pig, and legs like a kangaroo. It’s a mix of 4 different species. How cool is that?

If you love bumping into cute and weird animals on the internet, then you’ll enjoy checking out this little guy too.

The long-eared jerboa is quite a rare, nocturnal, mouse-like rodent. As you can see in the images, it is also known for having exceptionally large ears and a long tail like a Langur.

Little jerboa measures somewhere between 2.8 to 3.5 inches in length, and its tail is twice its body length. This weird animal was first seen in the film ‘Into the Wild’ in 2007 during an expedition to the Gobi desert.

The long-eared jerboas have relatively the largest ears in the whole animal kingdom.

These unique rodents are natives of the Southern Mongolian deserts and North-Western China. Being nocturnal, the little jerboas spend the day in underground burrows that they dig themselves, and mostly their food is insects.

With back legs, long-eared jerboas look similar to the kangaroos and can jump high like them. Their front legs are relatively smaller than the back legs.

These adorable-looking animals have very erratic locomotion. With a zigzag trajectory, they can jump several feet both vertically and horizontally.
