In a remarkable event that has taken America by pleasant surprise, a scientist won the Miss America 2020 pageant. She performed a science experiment on the stage, as a part of the talent show segment – and that experiment looked so awesome it blew the audience away.
Camille Schrier, who had the crown of Miss Virginia, emerged out of 50 other contestants as the winner of Miss America crown.
First time in the history of Miss America
This was the first time in the history of the Miss America event that a science experiment was performed as a part of the talent show.
Camille Schrier, demonstrated the experiment called the “Elephant toothpaste” in which catalytic decomposition of hydrogen peroxide takes place when mixed with yeast or potassium iodide, and then the whole mixture blows up.
The judges were all impressed and praised her initiative.

Camille Schrier is a PharmD student at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, and her goal as Miss America is to promote drug safety and drug abuse prevention. She also wants to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education among women.
She also thanked Miss America pageant for taking the focus off women’s bodies and giving them a chance to showcase their intelligence, capabilities, and goals.
She won a $300,000 scholarship along with the crown
The previous Miss America from 2019, Nia Franklin, awarded Camille Schrier with the Miss America 2020 crown and a $300,000 worth of scholarship.
Camille Schrier said her goal was to become like Bill Nye, and promote science and rational thinking among the general public.
