Dentists are known to fix your teeth, but Dr. Sukhmani shared what else dentists can tell about their patients’ health, including if they’re pregnant or not.
Seemingly, a simple trip to the dentist could reveal a lot more about you than you expect. And if you’re a woman, it could even give away if you’ve got a bun in the oven.
Yeap, you read that right! According to a fourth-year dental student, Dr.Sukhmani, dentists could tell if you’re pregnant just by looking in your mouth.
In a TikTok video, she explained: “Your dentist may be able to tell that you are pregnant.”
While missing periods, nausea, tiredness, frequent urinating, and sore breasts are some popular symptoms of early pregnancy, there’s another sign which could reveal if you’re expecting, and it comes from your mouth.
“This is not only due to nausea and the enamel erosion, but this is due to pregnancy gingivitis which is seen in 30 to 50 percent of pregnant patients,” Dr. Sukhmani stated.
“Gums become more inflamed, tender, and prone to bleeding.”
In another clip, Dr. Sukhmani continued that there are many other things a dentist can tell about you, just by looking into your mouth, including if you have a sinus infection.
She went on to explain that patients often think they need a root canal, when in fact it turns out they suffer from a sinus infection, as the pain is in a similar place and can be confused.
A revealing way to tell if bending over increases the pain then it is more likely that you have a sinus and that you need a doctor, not a dentist.
