“Make your bed when you get up in the morning” is one of the most common things you might have heard. However, you’d be surprised to know that you’re up to no good by doing so.
In an interview with UK’s Daily Star, Mattress experts said that when you sleep, your bedsheets end up building moisture and sweat, especially in summers. And whatever the case may be, you can’t avoid this situation.
According to the Sleep Council, an average human body releases about 285ml of fluids every night, making a significant amount of sweat seeping into their bedsheets.
So, when you fold our beddings to make them look nice and clean, the moisture stays trapped, and almost the same amount of sweat would add to this already built-up moisture the following night.
So, what to do?
Instead, you should allow your mattress and sheets to breathe some air and help them evaporate the built-up moisture.
Moreover, TikTok star Dr. Karan Raj more than agrees with the mattress experts, he previously gave the same advice to his followers on the platform.
The doc said: “Stop making your bed first thing in the morning; it’s going to make you healthy.
“Making your bed in the morning traps dust mites that have accumulated overnight. These microscopic predators, which are less than a millimeter long, feed on the scales of human skin and thrive in moist environments.
“When we sleep at night, our bodies become warm and sweaty, making them prime targets for these mites to feed on. They will leave behind excretions which can give us asthma or allergy-like symptoms. So making your bed in the morning traps all this moisture and provides a home for 1.5 million of these bad boys.
“Instead, leave your bed messy just for a while. It exposes these mites to air and sunlight, which dehydrate them and causes them to die.”
