Have you ever met people who have fear of something that we happen to see or do in our day to day lives? Were you completely taken aback by that?
You might come across people having strange kinds of phobia and think to yourself ‘it’s so weird’. I’ll take you through five such bizarre phobias that would be hard for you to forget.
Here are five weirdest phobias whose explanation is still a mystery:
#5. Ombrophobia – The fear of rain
Rain pouring from the sky brings joy and makes you all excited but that’s not the case for people with Ombrophobia. It does not come as a surprise that this kind of fear could be found more in younger children than adults. Some fear heavy winds and storms, on the other hand, mere light rain and drizzle might take the form of fear in some cases.
#4. Chirophobia – The fear of hand
Don’t we use our hands all the time? Not many of us know but there are people who suffer from the phobia of hands, who fear even the thought of hands. This kind of fear causes them to experience anxiety or panic attacks and restrain themselves from touching or even shaking hands.
#3. Spectrophobia – The fear of mirrors
Mirror terror! Can you imagine living a life without a mirror? The mirror on the wall is not merely an object, but an essential part of our lives. People suffering from Spectrophobia have fear of mirrors or we could say fear of the images reflected within them. They are terrified of ghosts and spirits, which emanates from popular superstitions that mirrors can be used to contact the dead or act as portals to the supernatural.
#2. Koumpounophobia – The fear of buttons
You might take time to digest the fact that people who have Koumpounophobia fear the texture of certain buttons and consider them dirty. The feeling of fear and disgust are closely interconnected in this phobia. Did you know that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs also suffered from this phobia?
#1. Nomophobia – The fear of being without a mobile phone
Do you make it a point to always keep your mobile phone around you? Nomophobia is characterized by the feeling of anxiety that arises when people are without their mobile phones or are unable to use it for some reason like low battery, no signal. It is believed that more than 50% of mobile phone users are affected by nomophobia.
These bizarre phobias might sound unusual to you but the people who suffer them, take it quite seriously.
